FCPS Superintendent Stu Silberman to visit Copperfield
with FCPS Board member Kathy Lousignont

Photos and info from the meeting are now available.

August 15, 2004

We have invited Kathy Lousignont (FCPS Board Member) and Stu Silberman (FCPS superintendent) to a meeting with the neighborhood.  They both have accepted the invitation.

When:  Thursday, September 2, 2004   Time:  6:30pm
Place:  Copperfield Clubhouse

Objective:  Give Copperfield parents a chance to ask questions and have a dialogue with the superintendent and the FCPS board chair.

This is a great opportunity for us as a neighborhood.  Stu Silberman has some great ideas for the school system and this will give us a chance to hear his views first hand.  It will also give you as parents a chance to ask questions about the school system.

IMPORTANT:  We recognize that redistricting will be a topic of some questions, but we do NOT want this to be the main focus of this meeting.  There are many issues and conversations we can have about our school system and we need to take this time to cover a broad range of issues.

We need a great turnout for this meeting so that we can show our interest/concern for the school system.

I would like to have some type of agenda/topic list ahead of time if possible.  If any of you have questions/topics that you would like to send me ahead of time, I will relay those on to both Kathy and Stu so that they can be adequately prepared.

Please let us know your interest in this meeting, so we can gauge its value to the neighborhood.

Redistricting Information There has not been too much to do in this area up to this point in time.  The 'day four' numbers from this coming school year will give us an idea of what we should do next.

The current redistricting plans, if no changes are made, are here

Last year's day four numbers were in line with our expectations.  Jessie Clark has 863 students with a capacity of 832.  The FCPS staff projections (in 2002) for Jessie Clark were never above 834 students.  Lafayette was at 1934 students with a capacity of 1894.  FCPS staff projections were never above 1898.
This year's numbers will be a key factor.  Also keep in mind that since Bryan Station High School did not make all of their "No Child Left Behind" measures, parents can move their kids from Bryan Station to Lafayette or Henry Clay.  Although Henry Clay will get most of these moves, Lafayette will get some impact.

Stay tuned and we will provide information as it comes forward.
